How my creative journey developed (photography)
My creative journey began with photography during my teenage years, after purchasing my first SLR camera in the 1970s, primarily doing black and white work, developing my own films and producing prints in a makeshift darkroom.
My first published print was in 1978 for an edition of Ashai Pentax Photography magazine, featuring a portrait of an elderly man. Since then, photography has continued as a leisure pursuit and examples of my work have been published in a variety of UK photography magazines: namely Practical Photography, Camera Weekly, Photography, Digital Photo, Digital Photo User, Digital Photography and What Digital Camera.
I have been a contributor to UK stock photo agency Alamy for about 20 years during which time my images have been licenced for use both in the UK and other countries around the world, usages include: national newspapers, editorial websites, other websites, commercial electronic, magazines, books, calendars, museums and newsletters.

I’m a photographer and digital artist based in the United Kingdom, and my art spans a mix of traditional and modern, all shaped by a long-standing fascination with patterns, landscapes, and architectural forms.
About Philip Preston
How my creative journey developed (digital art)
In recent years I developed a strong interest in digital art, initially using computer programs for use with photographs, and more recently software with Artificial Intelligence (AI) components including AI text to image generators, plus digital art and 3D software. My digital artworks these days are generally produced from a mix of different programs, namely Stable Diffusion, Studio Artist, Daz Studio and Boris FX Optics.
My digital artworks tend to be more modern and abstract than my photography, with a particular interest in geometric and mosaic styles. Whether I’m working with a camera or digital tools, I’m often looking for a pleasing balance between realism and abstraction, between the familiar and the unexpected.

What inspires me
Often, my work is influenced by:
the structure and symmetry found in nature and man made objects
the interplay of light, colour and shape
the challenge of transforming scenes and compositions into something visually striking
I enjoy creating pieces that feel modern, expressive, often with complexity and detail in the artwork components, which ultimately can bring personality and atmosphere into a space for wall art.
